An
Open Letter to the President
Dear President Bush and leaders of the United States of America,
We
come as citizens today who love our country, to request an action
by our leaders that could make the difference between our nation
being destroyed as we know it, or surviving with honor. America
has been blessed above all nations, but we have forgotten by whose
hand we have been preserved and prospered these many years. We "have
vainly imagined all these blessings were produced by some superior
wisdom and virtue of our own." (President Abraham Lincoln's
Proclamation for a National Day of Fasting, Humiliation (Repentance)
and Prayer, April 30, 1863) God alone can take credit for our success!
The
terrorist attack of 9-11-01 was an emergency call to wake us up,
and drive us to our knees to repent. God's hedge of protection around
the United States has been lifted because of unrepented sin, pride,
the innocent blood on our hands and because we have refused to heed
the warnings of God's prophets. Judgment has begun, but it can be
stopped, delayed or lessened. How? As always, God watches for repentance.
"If My people, which are called by My Name, shall humble themselves,
and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways; then
will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal
their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14)
We
call upon you today, to lead us in repentance by confessing our
national sins, humbling ourselves before God and asking God for
forgiveness, a return of His hedge of protection, and His grace
and blessing on our nation.
Individual
salvation and national salvation are different. The salvation of
a nation is determined by the actions of its king (President). The
collective sins of our nation, its leaders, judges and citizens,
weigh heavily on God's scales of justice. According to examples
in the Bible, the king or leaders of a nation must humble themselves
and repent if a nation is to survive, once the judgment cycle has
begun. An individual, on the other hand, can call upon God at anytime
during his life and God will forgive all his sin, welcoming him
into His kingdom. (We commend you on your war against terrorism,
and we are not saying to do nothing to defend ourselves. Rather,
we are calling you to a higher way; to trust in God, not in ourselves.)
President
Bush, it is our job to remind you, but it is your job to take the
responsibility to lead our nation through repentance. We call upon
you today to declare a NATIONAL DAY OF REPENTANCE, just as President
Lincoln did in the midst of a national crisis, to include fasting,
repentance and fervent prayer. We the people of America are like
the buildings of the World Trade Center, hanging in the balance
in a moment of time before our ultimate collapse. Our steel may
have been dented, but we still have a nation to fight for, on our
knees. Our most effective response will be to call on our God with
a penitent heart.
We
simply cannot save ourselves! Only God can save us. Failure to turn
this nation to repentance will result in a near total destruction
of this country. George Washington's Valley Forge vision prophesied
of only a remnant of America surviving this calamity, and Mr. President,
you can change the course of this tragedy.
Without
your action on this, more terrorism, earthquakes, volcanoes and
nuclear war is coming to the land that we love.
We
are only one sincere repentance and forgiveness away from being
saved. Mr. President, please hear us and act accordingly. This could
be America's finest hour! Oh God, please hear our President's plea
and save our nation!
